Travel: GORE MOUNTAIN
Day 8 &9 of our 19-20 Season were spent at Gore Mountain in New York. Roughly 3 hours from the 684/84 interchange and roughly 20 minutes from the i87 exit 23. Just past the Lake George area. A new to us mountain we went on a Monday and Tuesday to ride as a family, Gore Mountain participates in the SKI/NY Kids Ski Free Passport Program for 3rd and 4th graders.
Gore Mountain was a new to the family mountain. I knew nothing about the terrain but felt comfortable at our levels, we knew as long as it wasn’t too easy we would have fun and were up to the challenge. We LOVED it. Gore is composed of 4 mountains which is now displayed in their new logo, which is in the shape of a turned G with the 4 peaks represented. Gore is comprised of 7 areas and even though we only explored 2 of the 4 peaks we were able to ride Straight Brook, Topridge and Northwoods. The time we had made us leave wanting more and sure to be back.
What We Loved
Going on week days we were able to park a few aisles down from the base lodge, which was huge. They had a restaurant, ski shop, lower levels rooms, bathrooms and benches, rentals and more. The kids loved walking out and jumping right on the Northwoods Gondola, we rode that the most which also brought us to the other lifts up the mountain. The trails were challenging, not just straight down, we could go from one, to the park, back to riding hard and into another park to the end. We loved the parks, I am always the photographer but this time I did try the jumps. I didn’t fall but I didn’t get as high as my husband either. Each Gondola has a little historical fact sheet inside on the window with info about the area, the sport and the Olympics which we found out were held in Lake Placid just a short trip up the road in 1938 and 1980 . Like Ruby Run is named because of the minerals that were mined nearby called Garnet stones. We are already planning on going back before the season ends.
Did you know…
Gore is apart of the Olympic Regional Development Authority, a NYS entity that also manages Whiteface, Beleayre Mountains and the Lake Placid Olympic venue. There are discounts and passes that cover the 3 ski mountains when you purchase Frequent Skiers or SKI3 passes. Gore is more vertical than the other mountains, it is one of the highest on the North East.

Mountain Stats
We used the SLOPES app to track our days, in 2 days we did 20 runs which consisted of 25.7 miles of riding. Plus 2 we didn’t grab on the app due to “mom error”. We were mainly on the blues, blacks and some glades.

Where We Stayed
GORE MOUNTAIN LODGE was located just 2 minutes from Gore Mountain. This lodge has multiple rooms which have bunkbeds for the kids and a King bed for us parents. On the property are these really cool houses called Yurts which have seating for multiple people, a wood stove to stay cozy and games to spend time with the family. Becks Tavern is the place to eat and drink weather you’re staying there or not. It hosts a family friendly atmosphere with a lot of childhood nicknacks that are sure to bring you back to your childhood. The bar and restaurant are open till 10pm nightly and the food has a German flair. As an affordable option with their hospitality at an A+ this place was a homerun. My kids loved playing the games all around and unplugging from electronics. Rooms and tavern have many books for reading while visiting.
