Northeast Ski and Snowboard Mountains and Vacations
As we continue to snowboard many of the Northeast Ski and Snowboard Mountains and Vacations, we want to share with our readers the places we go and feedback. Last season we set a goal for the kids is 10 mountains and 30 days on the slopes. We hit 18 mountains and did 47 days on the slopes, we crushed it! Our most local and main mountain had been Thunder Ridge in Patterson, though they increased their season pass from 300 in 2019 to 700 in 2022, a major turnoff for no improvements during that time and limited terrain. Honestly with the Epic and Indy Passes being cheaper and offering more, look into the multi mountain passes for your biggest savings.
New York’s Kids Passport
Moms did you know that for a small fee 3rd and 4th graders ski free in New York? They can get 2 tickets free at each mountain with paid adult ticket, just $41 to sign up. The ISKINY website has the list of mountains participating and directions for applying for this awesome benefit. It was such a saver when both kids were able to take part the same season. Mountains
New York– From a train ride north of NYC, to the border of Canada to Western New York. There are plenty of places within our state, both big and small to go skiing and snowboarding. I am a product of Big Birch turned Thunder Ridge from my elementary school years. Starting with skiing and turning to snowboarding in high school.
New Jersey– While Mountain Creek is NJ’s true resort mountain, there are many mountains for cross country, snow shoeing and other outdoor winter sports areas around.
Connecticut– Just to the right of our Hudson Valley region, there are 4 mountains in Connecticut. Personally we have only been to Mohawk, which we plan on going back again this winter season after being there for opening day. While no terrain park for those daredevil types, there is plenty of trails to conquer with your family.
Massachusetts– From Brewster, we head to Catamount and Butternut for day trips to ride. Under 90 minute trip there. Go beyond to see the other mountains Massachusetts has to offer. We love Jiminy Peak and Berkshire East too.
New Hampshire– Plenty of choices between Alpine and Cross Country mountains and resorts you can go all over New Hampshire and find places to enjoy the snow. Check out NH’s 4th & 5th grader program.
Vermont– With 20 Apline mountains, many backed by Burton for snowboarding, there are plenty of choices and pull many for the NY region. As a family we have boarded at Smuggler’s Notch, OKEMO and St. Snow may times. 5th and 6th graders for 21/22 Season can get free tickets here.
Maine– They sort their mountains with 3 Ski Mountain Destinations, Big Mountain and Recreational areas. Sunday River, Sugar Loaf and Saddleback are those big three. Maine’s deal for kids- snow pass.
