August is almost here! We are starting to plan my 5 year old’s birthday at the end of month. The weather looks great for the upcoming weekend so here are some great things to get out there and enjoy!

4-H Fair: Enjoy talented local musicians and dancers. Have fun with games, crafts and animal exhibits. Experience a country fair with an old-fashioned flair- the Putnam County 4-H Fair!

Meet the Llamas: Meet real llamas and learn all sorts of interesting facts about them. Everyone will have a chance to ask questions plus pet them, groom them, feed them and take photographs with them!
Beacon Institute Clarkson University, Beacon
WOW series: Learn how New York’s sturgeon, beaver, box turtle, wolf and bald eagle have survived 400 years of human settlement. Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Environmental Educator Megan Hoffman will trace this Hudson Valley history with visual help from Sensor Place’s 3D watershed exhibit.

Family Series: Alice in Wonderland
Sports Museum of Dutchess County, Wappingers Falls
Family Day: Visitors to this all FREE event will be able to take a sneak peek at the newly renovated museum and new permanent exhibition, Legends of Dutchess, highlighting dozens of athletes who have made it to the professional level, as well as over 20 sports and artifacts of unique historical importance. Other activities include FREE hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks; sports related games and activities for children, music, vendors, and more! Visitors are also encouraged to walk the historic park like grounds of Carnwath Farms and hike to the top of the property to see some of the most breathtaking views of the valley.

Skull & Bones Nature Program: A fun nature program for children ages 6-9. What can you tell by looking at a skull? Children become detectives, examining animal skulls to learn about predator and prey animals. $2 per child. Reservations required: (845) 889-8851.
