We are all finally back to school my 4 year had her last first day of preschool this week. To say she was ready is an understatement! It is looking like a beautiful fall weekend so here are some great places to check out!

Thursday September 13th – Sunday 16th

Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, Poughkeepsie

Festival: All your favorite Greek Foods and desserts, ready to eat there or to go!  Come and enjoy a taste of Greece! Greek pastries, the famous Gyro & Souvlaki, & of course, Lamb, and much more! Be apart of our culture and watch our very own children perform traditional Greek dances, then join in and dance with them! After that, take a look around at the variety of vendors or take a tour of our beautiful church. Enjoy a cold frappe or a hot Greek coffee. There is entertainment for kids as well. Greek music will be played non stop so be prepared to dance,eat, and drink!!! OPA!

Saturday September 15th – Sunday 16th

Patterson Fire Dept, Patterson

Blues and BBQ Festival: Great BBQ, family activities, booty shaking blues music are coming at you in Patterson, NY on the grounds of the firehouse on September 15 and 16th. Proceeds are donated to local charities and organizations. Have fun and feel great. 2 Days of Grease, Music and Love are coming!

Saturday September 15th – Sunday 16th

Trevor Zoo, Millbrook

Red Panda Weekend: Would you like to help save Red Pandas? Please come to the Trevor Zoo the weekend of September 15th and 16th as we celebrate the 9th International Red Panda Day. On both Saturday and Sunday we will donate 50% of all store and admission proceeds to the Red Panda Network and Red Panda Conservation efforts! Visit our Mill Gift Shop and anything you purchase including t-shirts, animal plushies, carved emu eggs, family memberships, and even your entry fees, will go towards this effort. We will have free Red Panda activity booklets for young children as well as a number of Red Panda Keeper talks. AND we’ll be giving away a FREE Trevor Zoo Membership and a FREE Jumbo Red Panda Plushie!

Community Day – A variety of events will take place at the Stanford Grange Hall and Stanford Recreation Fields including food and bake sales provided by Town Organization, musical Entertainment by local bands, Car Shop, Stanford Soap Box Derby, Children’s Games, Grandstand Program featuring the Stissing Mountain High School Band & Awarding of the 2018 Community Citizen Award, Flower & Vegetable Show, 60th Anniversary Fireworks in the evening with a Free Ice Cream Social from Stewart’s Shops!

Sunday September 16th

Vanderbilt Mansion, Hyde Park

Garden Tours: Vanderbilt Garden Association interpreters will offer FREE tours of the formal gardens at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site on Route 9 in Hyde Park between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM (weather permitting).  Tours begin at the entrance to the gardens.  The volunteer interpreters will discuss the history of the gardens, with a focus on the Vanderbilt ownership and the mission of the not-for-profit Vanderbilt Garden Association to rehabilitate and maintain the plants, shrubs, trees, and statuary in the gardens as they were in the 1930’s just prior to Mr. Vanderbilt’s death. They will also provide information about three major projects the gardens are currently undergoing: the renovation of the Cherry Walk, the replanting of the Rose Garden terraces, and the rehabilitation of the Rose Garden fountain. Visitors can also visit the 1875 Toolhouse to look at photographs of the gardens taken during and since the Vanderbilt era.
