King Kong on Broadway

Share

This post is made possible by support from King Kong Broadway. All opinions are my own.

My 8 year old son, Jack, is obsessed with King Kong, since kindergarten he makes his own King Kong drawings and stories. When we went to Universal Studios Orlando, we went on the ride over five times. So when we first heard the show was coming out, I added it to my list to take Jack to.

Jack and I took the train down and then with a hop on the subway to the theater which was right outside the station when we came up from underground. Super accessible from the Westchester/Putnam area. After buying some treats we sat down waiting for the show to begin.

Well it did, while it took a while to finally see King Kong, the singing and dancing kept our attention. Right before intermission, the 2 TON Gorilla made his first appearance, stealing Ann Darrow, played by Christiani Pitts. Jack at this point was open mouth, sitting at the edge of his seat in awe. WIN! It can be a little slow for the kids in the beginning but it is all made up once the king arrived.

The second half lost my son for a bit until again King Kong came out and him and Ann went to the Empire State Building. The mechanics of a two ton gorilla moving and visual of running/climbing was impressive. He didn’t care for the acting about acting int he show part, he liked the action.

If your kid(s) like King Kong and musicals, they’ll enjoy this. As I always say, you know your kid best on fear factor. My son was not scared at all. His only gripe- they had a snake fighting King Kong instead of T-Rex. He also got to ask why, and surprised the cast with knowing that fact.
