Broadway Children’s Workshop in Chappaqua

Share

This week over 30 children participated in a WICKED Children’s Workshop at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center.  For two hours they were guided by two Broadway actresses.  I am not gonna lie I am kind of a Broadway geek so my daughter already knew the WICKED soundtrack going in.  So to meet actresses who had been in the show was a super thrill to her.  Never mind the fact that we had seen both actresses in the shows they are currently in was huge to her.

When it comes to my older daughter she has pretty much done it all in regards to performing with the exception of singing in front of a group.  So when I presented her the opportunity to go this event she was skeptical as to how much work would be involved and how long it would last for.  Once I explained it was just a 2 hour workshop she was game for it.  After that all I heard about was how excited she was, and trying to figure out what song she was going to learn.

When Monday came she was ready and ditched me at the theater without a second glance.  We have had some sadness lately so seeing her so comfortable immediately was great.  From what I was told they played games learned the song and dance and got some great tips from the actual actresses.  They all got to have some interaction with the actresses and the other professionals that worked with them from the performing arts center.  To say she had a blast is an understatement, and seeing what they taught the kids in such a small amount of time, was simply amazing.

My daughter loved being on stage and performing, even if it was for 2 minutes in full of a room of parents.  The “itch”.

There was talk back after both groups performed, the girls (and families) were able to ask these two actresses about how they got into the business, favorite rolls, techniques and funnies.  My 4 year old was sitting in the audience to watch her sister and is now telling the story about how one of the actresses lost part of her costume on stage to anyone who will listen.  She was also super brave and asked a question which they listened to and answered (even though it was very silly).  The event was an opportunity that won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
