Thursday, November 27th (THANKSGIVING!)

The Annual Family of New Paltz 5k Turkey Trot.

Mashed Potatoes Fun Run for kids 10 years and under is free.

Register early to avoid long lines.  The mission is to raise money for Family’s food pantry and crisis programs and to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness in Ulster County. Water Street Market, New Paltz; Day of registration starts at 8am;

Highland Community Thanksgiving Luncheon. Thanksgiving Luncheon is made possible by our local businesses, churches, and generous individuals who gladly offer their time to prepare a Thanksgiving Meal for families & individuals in need. St. Augustine School, 35 Phillips Ave. Highland; 1-3pm;  If you wish to donate food items or volunteer, please contact Richard Gorres at 845-901-9094.

**I personally have helped set up this event in the past by peeling potatoes and setting up stations in the cafeteria. A lot of hard work goes into this event for all community members. It’s a wonderful place to go if you find yourself with no where to go.

Family of Woodstock’s 39th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

The dinner is open to everyone. The Mescal Hornbeck Community Center in Woodstock will be closed for renovations. The Overlook Methodist Church is generously opening its doors to the community for this wonderful day. The church hall only seats 110 people at a time so they will be having two seatings and doing more take out/delivery. The Overlook Methodist Church, 233 Tinker St, Woodstock; Two seatings, Noon and 2pm; Please call 679-2485. Leave your name and phone number and what you would like to help with.

Second Annual Green Friday Event

This green alternative to the busiest shopping day of the year will allow community members to learn about a variety of environmentally conscious lifestyle choices and products that will be sure to inspire and inform, most of which can be purchased locally. Phonecia Turkey Trot

2014 proceeds will benefit the STS Playhouse.  The STS Playhouse will sponsor and judge a costume contest this year … so be sure to sign in a costume.  2.4 mile run, ramble, trot, walk or wobble. Free Tot Trot (under 5) at 9:30am. Registration and sign in from 8-9:45am at the Parish Hall. (across from the St Francis de Sales church, Main St, Phoenicia). Race starts at 10am. Sinterklaas Kingston 

For the fourth year, Kingston will celebrate a little bit of its Dutch heritage and reprise its starring role as Spain in the story of Sinterklaas’ arrival in the Hudson Valley. A festive procession of giant puppets, stars, fish, flags, this year’s honored animal (the Hummingbird) and the great Hudson River itself will travel down Broadway to bring the beloved holiday story to life.
