Apple Moms has partnered with Jen over at Cuddles and Chaos for a contest to bring all mother’s together with their SUPER POWERS!! Check out what she has put together!

So much of what’s on the internet and social media about motherhood focuses on what’s hard. We talk about sleepless nights and tantrum-filled days and constantly feeling like a failure. I wholeheartedly admit that being a mom is the hardest job I’ve ever had. It can be brutal and exhausting, but it’s also really, really amazing.

This Mother’s Day, I want to change the conversation. Instead of focusing on what’s hard, I want to celebrate all of the ways we kick ass. So I’m assembling our very own #supermomsquad.

Between today and 5/1 you can post a photo of your mom superpower on social media with the hashtag #supermomsquad (make sure you also tag JEN so that she can see it @cuddlesandchaos on Facebook and Instagram and @jennifergarry on Twitter). On 5/1, I’ll put all of the entries into a Facebook album. You can share it and encourage your friends and family to vote for your entry. The photo with the most likes by Mother’s Day (5/8) will win an awesome grand prize bundle that includes:

Now, let me introduce you to a few of the members of our bad ass #supermomsquad…

Superpower: Smile Initiator

I, like all moms, have the exceptional ability to make my children smile. There will be no grumpy gills here. I will do anything it takes to turn that frown upside down, including but not limited to: dancing like a maniac, singing as loud as I can, “putting the crab in water” and the ultimate secret weapon—tickling. I will discover that one word or topic my child finds irresistibly hilarious and exploit it when they’re at their grouchiest. Gloom: you have no chance.

Superpower: Girl Encourager

We moms are pretty darn amazing. I was always floored by my body’s superpower ability to make milk that I then fed to my babies. I think that will always be my favorite superpower. When I recently asked my oldest (age 7) what she thought my superpower was, she said it’s that I have eyes in the back of my head! HA! Yes, that’s right little one…and don’t you forget it.

But, for me, for right now, I am most proud of giving the girls in my community the opportunity to realize their own superpowers through a program I created. It came to fruition because of my wanting more for my own daughter. I teach girls the basics of flag football but the program is so much more than football. It’s about reminding girls that sports should not be labeled as just a “boy” or “girl” thing. It’s about reminding them to try new things and that they can do anything they work at and put their minds to. The program is about getting girls to understand that their achievements are more important than their looks… that being strong in mind and body feels good… that kindness is contagious and that we girls need to look out for each other and support each other on and off the football field. And last but definitely not least, it’s about introducing them to all of the super powerful women and girls that exist in the world around them. Women like you and me.

So, to my #supermomsquad, let’s keep at it ladies!

Superpower: Super Advocate

I am the biggest advocate for my children’s needs. Just under 24 hours from when my son was born, I was juggling meetings with doctors and surgeons for hand surgery as a baby. Then the special education system for therapies pertaining to his hand and then delays for both kids—all while keeping a sense of humor and normalcy for the kids and teaching them nothing will ever hold them back and to go for their dreams.

Superpower: Epic Listening Skills

The mom with the stretchy arms from The Incredibles. That’s the super power I’ve always wanted as a mom. To catch the spill before it happens, to cushion the fall before it hurts, to have an arm ready to hug every child at once. I’m a mom to three—11, 8, and 6—and they’re now independent, spirited individuals, becoming more and more sure of themselves in the world a part from their mom.

My arms are trying to stretch with them to block out the challenges of adolescence. But that’s not what my arms are meant to do.

I asked my oldest what my superhero power is. And guess what, it has nothing to do with my arms… but more my ears. “You’re great to talk to, Mom. You listen. And set things straight.”

Oof. Make that patient ears. I don’t need stretchy arms, I have patient ears.

Superpower: Shape shifting

The day before my son was born, I found out I needed to have a c-section. Out the window went the yoga music-fueled, natural birth I’d been planning all along. In the hospital, he lost too much weight and needed supplemental formula. Out the window went the breastfed-only plan.

And thus I started honing my shape-shifting superpower, one that I imagine is pretty inherent to most moms. I’ve learned over the past 18 months how to go from one thing to another, seemingly in seconds. Both in the day-to-day sense (employee to chef to block builder to board book performance artist) and in the larger sense: nothing will go totally as planned, and, as the old cliché goes, you have to roll with the punches and change accordingly.

And while there may be days when I wish shape shifting wasn’t an option at all—when there are tears and resistance and so much wishing for sleep—I’m so happy I get to be all these things at once, to be able to help my son become the best person he can be, because of it.

Though let’s be real, I’m sure if it were up to him, I’d be shape shifting into something way cooler, like Daniel Tiger.

I want to thank the ladies from our #supermomsquad for sharing their bad ass superpowers today. I’ll be sharing mine in the coming days and can’t wait to read all about yours!

Help spread the word by sharing this post with all of the moms you know who kick ass.
