Meet, Jaimie Tamburello, mom of four from Bloomingburg just outside Orange County and found online with her business Ever After Embroidery which she started in May 2014.

How did the idea come about? I love personalized gifts and have always admired embroidery.  My husband and I attended a trade show to learn about the business aspect of it and we both left with the confidence we needed to start a business.

What is special about your business?  I create one of a kind keepsakes for babies, children, parents, adults and grandparents.

How do you manage having your own business and motherhood?  It’s still a work in progress. Sometimes I am very overwhelmed and feel like I am not devoting enough attention to my children. At that point I take a step back and make a point to do something special with them or take the night off from working.  Many nights I wait until the kids are in bed and I stay up most of the night working.

Walk us through a typical day: First 2 kids get on the bus at 6:40am, third child gets on at 8:30am.  I drive 20 minutes to bring my youngest to preschool, go to the gym for 2 hours and then pick him up and head home. Once I get him settled I can usually get 2-3 hours of work done, either returning messages or designing orders. Children start coming home around 2:45 pm. Of course they then need to be driven to their extracurricular activies/sports. Finally by 7pm we are all home, eating dinner, finishing homework and getting ready for bed.  I try to either watch a quick show or play a board game with them. Card games are super popular because they can be quick and the kids still love them. Kids are in bed and then back to work I go…. My office is downstairs in my house. It’s a good thing because I can still work and be with my family. It’s a bad thing because I am interrupted many times to act as referee or mediator or just because someone wants their mommy.

If you had to give one piece of advice to a mom wanting to start her own business what would it be?  Always allow for extra time and extra expenses. I decided from the beginning that I only wanted to use good quality stuff so that I can feel proud when I hand it over to a customer. That required way more research and time than I ever imagined.
