Small Business Saturday: Mom Doreen
Meet our Yoga Mom, Doreen Foxwell of Sullivan County with sites all over the Hudson Valley and beyond (Orange, Dutchess, Rockland, Ulster, Putnam, Northern NJ, Bergen, Fairfield CT, Pike and the Bronx). She owns The Children’s School of Yoga and is also a mom of 2.
When did you start your business? The Children’s School of Yoga started in 2004
How did the idea come about? I had an epiphany that woke me in the middle of the night. I then woke my husband who told me to go back to sleep. I did not listen. Since then my business grew into the largest children’s yoga program in the Hudson valley.
What is special about your business? It is a yoga program that goes directly to the children in their childcare centers/preschools/after school programs/camps etc..
It has been so successful that I franchised the business 3 years ago.
How do you manage having your own business and motherhood? It is a juggling act. It was more difficult when my son was younger as I always wanted to be at his sporting events and activities and sometimes just could not be there.
Walk us through a typical day: I check into the official office/stusio, I go on the road to teach and check back in to the office studio managing all the behind the scenes operations of my business in 10 counties and 3 states.
If you had to give one piece of advice to a mom wanting to start her own business what would it be? Have a support system of friends and/or family to fill in when you cannot be there for your children.
