Six Flags Great Escape Lodge Trip Review

We jumped in the car and headed north to the beautiful Lake George area, where we checked into the awesome Six Flags Great Escape Lodge. Super close to the Hudson Valley!! My son was excited as soon as he saw the slides outside the building he knew it meant Water Park! We checked in at 4pm during the dance party with Frankie and Oakley. (Hint you can check in as early as noon and use the waterpark while they get your room ready) However, no matter how I tried the kids didn’t want to dance. We checked in quickly even with the busy lobby and once we had our keys we were headed to the room to change and jump into the fun.

We had a 2 queen suite with a couch that pulled out into a bed, spacious for our family of four. The sink area was outside the bathroom which helps so much at bedtime. It also had a fridge and microwave so we were all set. The kids just wanted to get to the swimming after they tested out the beds.  Rooms are great for extended stays and also feature indoor waterpark passes.

We changed clothes took a quick elevator ride down to the bottom floor where the doors open to the super friendly towel man.  He gave us all towels to use and explained where they go back once we had finished. We opened the door and stepped into the warm indoor water park. The kids’ heads were spinning where to go first, they picked the lazy river or Tak-it-Eesi-Creek.  Then ran upstairs to the Tall Timbers Treehouse this section had a great mix of older and younger activities. While my son enjoyed some of the bigger slides my daughter played in the different spray areas.  Then they both ran back and forth for the bucket drop.  My three year old and I took the dark plunge down avalanche while my son opted for the Glacier Falls and Snowshoe Run single rider tube slides.  I didn’t get to try out surfing as the Boogie Bear Surf was down for maintenance but we will try when we go back.  All of this had us ready for some dinner.

The Lodge has three different choices for food Tall Tales Tavern, Birch Bark Grill, and Johnny Rockets. They also had a family friendly pizza and soda deal available at check in.  However the hubby has a few near and dear places he loves to visit in Lake George so we went out on the town.
The waterpark is open from 9:30am-9:00pm daily but don’t worry if you want more to do they have you covered. We didn’t get to experience Adventure Trek first hand but did watch a few kids playing, it’s an interactive quest game that brings you to different levels of the hotel as you complete your quest. My little one and husband went back to the room, while the older one hit the claw machines.  The arcade is open until 11pm giving us plenty of time to play.

After a restful night the kids were ready to get right to the action again.  We held them off with a little breakfast from the café downstairs and coffee for the adults. We roamed around and were checking out the waterpark without water when the water turned on, my daughter’s face light up. We hit the slides as soon as they opened and were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have a ton of company.

Check out is at 11am so we enjoyed the slides and river until 10:30am, then ran back upstairs to pack up our room and checkout. (There are bathrooms in the waterpark to change in too.) We had a delicious lunch at Johnny Rockets and walked over the bridge to enjoy the day at The Great Escape. Staying out of the Lodge includes tickets for the indoor waterpark and Six Flags Great Escape Amusement Park. The Great Escape has some great budget friendly all you can eat and drink packaged as well as deals on water and snacks.

STORYTOWN USA throws off a nostalgic feel as you walk into the park. Our bright and sunny day was perfect for the outdoor water fun: Lumberjack Splash Wave Pool, Capt’n Hook’s Adventure River, and Buccaneer Beach.  We ended with a few rides on Frankie’s Mine Train Coaster, and gave mom a glimpse of them driving away in the future while enjoying Thunder Alley.  The park is huge, we will be back again.  Having kids a few years apart, The Great Escape provided fun for all, appealing to everyone’s little kid inside.
