REVIEW:Westchester Broadway Theatre’s The Bikinis

Share
THE BIKINIS happening now through March 19th is at Westchester Broadway Theatre.
A fun show about a one-hit-wonder 1960s girl group whose members come back together two decades later to relive their heyday, bring back the sun, fun and reprise all the great songs they sang on the Jersey Shore boardwalk.

The musical is set in two acts. The first act introduces us to the 4 women who were once called The Bikini’s. They are back together to fund raise money for legal fees to save their beloved New Jersey beach settlement Sandy Shores from developers- the place they  met back in the summer of 1964. The four singers reminisce  about  their journey from local teen stardom into adulthood. They take us through a musical time machine with hits from the early 1960s beach party days, the late 1960s hippie days to the 1970s disco era.

The First act has such standards as “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” “The Shoop Shoop Song”  and “Under the Boardwalk.”
After intermission, we enter the late 1960s Woodstock era then move forward to the 1970s disco era. We hear such songs as “Time of the Season,” Look What You’ve Done to My Song, Ma,” and “Last Dance.”
“The Bikinis” succeeds as a fun show for those who remember the era when boots were made for walking, but also for people who aren’t  familiar with the songs. The music will have you dancing in your seat and singing along if you know the tunes.
