Recap of Mystic Aquarium

My 4 year old and I love aquariums, it’s kind of our thing to check out the closest aquarium wherever we are visiting.  So when we were asked to review Mystic, my daughter jumped for joy.  Living in the Hudson Valley, visiting Mystic Aquarium is about 2 hour trip from the 684/84 intersection and makes for a great day trip or overnight with the family. IMGP0421

Mystic aquarium is the only aquarium in the Northeast that has Beluga whales.  My daughter wants to be a “Shamu Trainer” when she grows up so seeing whales of any kind up close is super exciting for her.  I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of space there is to see the whales without having to be smooshed into a huge crowd of people.

My 4 year old even got to have Juno one of the belugas interact with her at the glass I missed the picture opportunity since I was with the baby at another part of the tank.  She however told anyone who would listen about how the whale showed her his teeth! –A must attraction while visiting!

The aquarium is very easy to navigate and has enough of a direct path through the exhibits so the kids can run a little ahead and you will catch up to them.  Each of the larger exhibits has an aquarium staffer giving you a run down on the animals in the exhibit and can answer any of the your questions.  Which for a Mom who answers “Why?” all day long, it was a nice load off my shoulders!

Many of the larger exhibits have underwater viewing which both of my girls loved, especially when the animals come right up to the glass.  Penguins are here also, a favorite attraction for all.

We made sure to catch the Sea Lion show as well which was adorable and educational at the same time.  My 1 year old was easily able to sit through it, which was a big relief for us!

Lunchtime was also a fairly easy experience considering that there are many different options to satisfy everyone.  There is also a picnic area just outside so you can bring a lunch to enjoy instead of dropping the cash at the concessions.

All around my family had a fantastic time visiting and I am sure we will stopping on our way out to Rhode Island again!  Oh and I almost forgot the most important part of any aquarium visit – WE FOUND NEMO!
