REVIEW: Monster Energy Supercross at METLIFE

Share

imageLive action nontraditional sports is where you will find my family.  We attended the Monster Energy Supercross Championship at Metlife on April, 30th, the 16th of 17 races for the season. While my husband and son attended last year, this was the first time we went as a family.  The weather was great and there was plenty to do even before the races began at 6:30pm.IMG_2678 2 image

First arriving to the “Biggest Pit Party of the Year”, we walked around checking out the different bikes, rider tents and demonstrations taking place.  Riders doing tricks, burn outs, car stunts took place all afternoon from Noon-6p in the parking lot. We were also able to do a Track Walk before the races.  Walking the actual Supercross track was a great experience, seeing how high the dirt mounds were: whoops and rhythm sections, turns, and then 2 hours later see the bikes on the track, the kids had fun running up and down (my husband too- biggest kid of all).IMG_2759 2IMG_2764 2imageimage

Supercross is exciting, the kids were going wild cheering.  Each class, 250SX and 450SX, has 40 qualifiers and 2 heats and a Last Chance Qualifier races.  22 Riders compete in the class main event.  There are 15 laps in the 250SX Main and 20 Laps in the 450SX main event. Big introductions were done for some of the riders with fireworks and pyrotechnics.  Ryan Dungey was 2016 Champion for Supercross before even competing to this race. In the 450SX main event, Ken Roczen took the win for the night, with a battle of 2-4 most of the race, for me edge of the seat excitement.  Roczen was unbelievable, he took the lead from the beginning never letting up with an almost 20 second lead on the 2nd place rider.   Twenty laps, never went faster!image image

You do not want to miss Supercross when it comes to a stadium near you!

Tips:

  • don’t forget ear plugs for little ones
  • as the night it goes on it can get chilly bring extra sweatshirts and blankets
