We had the pleasure of attending Annie Get Your Gun last week at the Westchester Dinner Theatre.  I have been taking my daughter to the shows I think she will love and this one is her favorite yet.  We started with a great dinner (where she took my Prime Rib, fancy 6 year old.  Our seats were in the front left, next to where the STARS enter and exit the stage at times, she LOVED that.  They do not interact but seeing them next to her, she was thrilled.  Mid-show during one of Annie’s shooting trials, it was done behind us.  There was lots of high energy among the actors and the audience watching.   “There’s no business like show business” we were bopping in our seats to that song.  This show is great exposure to the theatre for kids, and a great show to see without.  Running now until the end of January with a small break for The Christmas Voyager. Don’t wait to see it!

Annie Get Your Gun, the musical, is a fictionalized version of the life of  Annie Oakley. Annie’s (Devon Perry) ability as a sharpshooter wins her a job in Buffalo Bill’s (Gary Lynch) Wild West show. Her brilliant shooting offends the masculinity of the show’s star marksman, handsome baritone Frank Butler (Adam Kemmerer), and makes a romance between the pair impossible. A happy ending only arrives when wise old Sitting Bull (Marshall Factora) gently demonstrates to the naive Oakley that she can easily win the insecure Butler by intentionally losing a shooting competition. The rousing, sure-fire finale hit’s the mark every time. With songs such as “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “The Girl That I Marry” and “Anything You Can Do” this wonderful Irving Berlin score will score a hit for all of us!

Written by Herbert & Dorothy Fields, the show premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in 1946 and ran for 1,147 performances. Directed by Joshua Logan, the show starred Ethel Merman as Annie, Ray Middleton as Frank Butler, The musical toured the U.S. in 1947 with Mary Martin as Annie.
