We are off next week on our last summer adventure! I hope everyone is getting their fill of the last days of summer break! I did back to school clothes shopping last week but we are waiting on our teacher assignment for supply shopping. However, if you are finished or looking for something other then shopping to do here are a few end of summer ideas!

Thursday August 17th

Mid Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Gardening Time: Join us as we head outside to The Children’s Garden @ MHCM is where families learn about growing our own food and practice gardening techniques. The day’s lesson and participation is free and open to all with museum admission. Children who would like an extra take-home project can plant their own herb garden green house for $5!

Old Rhinebeck Aerodome, Rhinebeck

Kids Fly Weekend: The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a true “living” museum of antique aviation located in the historic town of Rhinebeck, New York. We present one of the largest collections of early aeroplanes in the world, as well as automobiles, motorcycles, early engines and memorabilia spanning the period from 1900-1939.

Sunday August 20th

Center for Performing Arts, Rhinebeck

Family Theatre: When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. A musical adventure with a cast of colorful characters! Performed by The CENTER’s Kids on Stage Performance group, directed by Lisa Lynds.

 

Monday August 21st

Mid Hudson Children’s Museum (Waterfront Market), Poughkeepsie

Kid’s Kitchen: We’re making delicious food from the freshest ingredients you can get! Children will follow educators as we pick produce from either our children’s garden or vendors at the market. Educators and kid volunteers will then demonstrate simple cooking techniques to turn the produce into a scrumptious kid friendly snack. And of course we’ll taste our creations!

Storytime with Ed: Join Ed, our special guest volunteer, as he makes some of his favorite stories come alive!  This program is best for children ages 3-5.  Free with museum admission.

Tuesday August 22nd

Clermont Historic Park, Germantown

Storytime: Ever wanted to be a time traveler? Join us for a special storytelling hour at Clermont State Historic Site! We will gather in the Livingston Family estate and listen to the same stories the many generations of Livingston children loved over the years. At 11:00am, we’re welcoming children ages 5-8.
