Yes we are half through August already!  I am neck deep in birthday planning for my soon to be 6 year old!  Her birthday wish list is almost as long as her Christmas list.  So while I am shopping til I drop here are a few family events you can check out!

Thursday August 11th

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Fertile Minds Garden Time:Our newest learning space is outdoors!  Join us as we head into the new Children’s Garden @ MHCM to learn about growing food and to practice gardening techniques.  This program is free with museum admission.

Schatlhaus Park, Wappingers Falls

ConcertMatt Jordan Jazz Band plays “Smooth Jazz” and “hot jazz” while blending in classic progressive jazz like Latin, Swing, Funk, this contemporary jazz band not only performs with energy, vigor, and power, it also blends in creative smooth jazz originals.

Friday August 12th

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Starlab: Journey into the museum’s StarLab Planetarium to learn basic astronomy concepts. After the program you’ll be able to find real constellations in the night sky!  $3 per person, plus museum admission.

Movie: Watch the Lego Movie under the stars!

Saturday August 13th

Van Wyck Homestead, Fishkill

Children’s Book Signing:  Meet author S.T. David among her books is Musket and Mobcap which peeks into the daily life of Sybil Ludington during the time of the American Revolution as she tangles with thieves, meets a spy, and makes her famous nighttime ride to muster her father’s militia troops and protect the Hudson Highlands while the British soldiers burn Danbury.

Kent Public Library, Carmel

Hula Hoop Extravaganza: Learn to hula hoop with certified hula hoop instructor and founder of the organization Hoop for a Better Tomorrow. Ashley Gannon for a fun, free and energy packed Hula Hoop Extravaganza! No registration required. Open to all ages, from those with little to no experience to those who have been hula hooping for years and years!  *Bring water! Also, if you have a hula hoop feel free to bring it! Hula Hoops will be provided to those that do not have one*

Sunday August 14th

Pete & Toshi Riverside Park, Beacon

Beacon Sloop Corn Festival: Enjoy food, fun and music down by the lovely Hudson Riverside. Environmental booths and vendors bring awareness to many environmental and social issues.

Monday August 15th

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Storytime: Join Ed, our special guest volunteer, as he makes some of his favorite stories come alive!  This program is best for children ages 3-5.  Free with museum admission.

Tuesday August 16th

Wednesday August 17th

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Making Masterpieces: Jackson Pollack was famous for painting by dripping paint onto giant canvases to make art.  Children will learn about Pollock and then create their very own canvas drip painting.  Museum admission plus $5.00 materials fee per child.
