Putnam & Dutchess Weekly Events 12/11 – 12/17
The holidays are in full effect at our house! However, while I was wrapping our holiday donation gifts I discovered we are out of wrapping paper! I hope you guys had a great time last weekend at all of the holiday celebrations in the area. We marched in the Holiday on the Lake parade with my daughter’s Daisy Troop. If you are looking for more fun this weekend here are some of the area’s highlights!
Friday December 11th
Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie
Gingerbread House Decorating – This is a yearly tradition at the children’s museum! A local baker creates lovely gingerbread houses just for us and we supply all the decorations you need to plan out and create your own perfect house! $20 for members and $25 for non-members (per house)
Village of Red Hook
Village Winterfest – Festivities include hayrides, arts and crafts, and hot chocolate. Carolers await the arrival of Santa. Tree lighting at the Key Bank lot. 6:30-8 pm.
Saturday December 12th
St James Church, Hyde Park
Cookie, Candy & Ornament Sale – Purchase delicious sweets, live table centerpieces and handmade ornaments for holiday giving. Fill a tin with homemade cookies $8 or 2/$15. HP Community Garden merchandise for sale. Proceeds support 19 local families for the holidays.
Center of Performing Arts, Rhinebeck
A Christmas Carol – The CENTER’s original musical adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale. Join Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, Ebenezer Scrooge and some wacky ghosts as they find the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy a live theater show with your favorite holiday songs performed by Kids on Stage, The CENTER’s after-school workshop program.

Build & Grow – Create a Holiday Train.
Mahopac Library, Mahopac
DIY Story Time – Drop in between 11 am and 3 pm to read to your children from a selection of picture books and use the available craft materials to create something together. The theme is Holiday Card making.
Sunday December 13th
Staatsburgh State Historical Site, Staatsburgh
Holiday Whodunit – Children become detectives to solve a history mystery. Costumed interpreters throughout the house provide clues to help kids find the solution.

Tuesday December 15th
Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie
P is for Presents – The alphabet’s presents have gotten mixed up and we can’t tell whose gift is whose! We’ll have to open them up and sound it out to solve the mystery. After we solve the ABC mystery we’ll use letter stamps to make our own alphabet gift wrap.
Wednesday December 16th
Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie
Globe Ornament Making – Turn a clear plastic ball into a treasured ornament at this fun project. We’ll have different options for your child to choose from including a snowman and Santa! $5.00 materials fee per child (adults free)
