We had a great time last week at the Best of Hudson Valley party!  If you have a chance to attend an event by Hudson Valley magazine check it out.  You won’t regret it.  We met some great new partners, that we can not wait to share with you!  In the meantime here are some great places to check out! Starlab: What’s that Constellation?: Journey into the museum’s StarLab Planetarium to learn basic astronomy concepts. After the program you’ll be able to find real constellations in the night sky!

Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie

Storytime at the Museum: New in 2016, the Art Center is hosting “Storytime at the Museum,” a series of programs for preschoolers ages 3-5. This fall we will have three sessions, each with a different theme and each including storybooks, rhymes, and a hands-on activity related to the art on view in the galleries. With art all around, it will be fun and enriching for preschoolers and their caregivers alike!

Saturday October 22nd

The Center for Performing Arts, Rhinebeck

The Wizard of Oz for Kids: A new interactive theatre show just for kids! Dorothy has been captured by the Wicked Witch of the West and her friends, the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow must save her. But the Tin Man is rusted, the Scarecrow unstuffed and the Cowardly Lion is scared. The Lion asks the children in the audience to help them overcome the Wicked Witch and save Dorothy. Children from the audience prove they have power over the Wicked Witch by helping their friends on the stage. They become Munchkins, help oil the Tin Man and one youngster is even magically transformed into the wonderful Wizard of Oz

Free Dance Days: Do you have a child who loves dancing, singing or acting? Are you looking for something FUN for them to do for free?  Choose from our popular children’s specialty classes. We have a variety of classes for ages 2-18. You can select a class that fits your child’s age and your schedule!  Your new dancer will love dancing to music, meeting new friends and having fun!  No experience is necessary but space is limited. Reserve your spot while space is still available and receive a free treat!

Pumpkin Glow: The Kent Public Library, along with the Kent Recreation Department present our 2nd Annual Pumpkin Glow! Proud of your carved Jack O’ Lantern? Bring it to the Kent Towne Green, in front of the Library, and show off your creation!  Enjoy apple cider popcorn and donuts as we wait for the sun to go down and the Jack O’Lanterns to come to life. For all ages! Bring a carved Jack O’ Lantern and a candle.

Tuesday October 25th

Try Science! Creepy Crawlies Investigation:Try Science! is our new early science program designed to introduce preschool aged children to concepts and content in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  Parents and caregivers will get tips on how to encourage further STEM learning at home.  Each month features a new topic and a different hands-on activity. “Creepy Crawlies Investigations”  – We will get up close and personal with insects and arthropods and learn about their important roles in the world around us.

Wednesday October 26th

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Poughkeepsie

Making Masterpieces: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a popular holiday celebrated in Mexico and around the world on November 1.  Children will learn about the holiday and decorate their own traditional sugar skull.  Because sugar skulls are made in advance, pre-registration for this program is highly recommended.  Call (845) 471-0589 to reserve your spot!  Museum admission plus $5.00 materials fee per child.

Rhinebeck Starr Library, Rhinebeck

Sinterklass Coloring Workshop:  Christina Baal, Author of 10,000 Birds and an owl expert will tell everyone owl tales and facts.  Bea Lambert, who makes all the small puppets for Sinterklaas, will demonstrate mask coloring.
