National Park Foundation Celebrates 100 Years in 2016 #ad

I am a HUGE National Park fan, I remember visiting the Red Wood Forest in elementary school and bringing home a “Giant Sequoia” in a paper towel tube from the gift shop.  We planted and it grew over the years from twelve inches to over our heads before we moved from that house. In 2011, my husband and I took my son to Boston, we bought our National Passport Book, ever since then I have been hooked with visiting and getting our stamps as a family.  Something for when my kids have kids they can pull it out and show them.

With this week marking 100 years of National Park Service and in Brooklyn there was an all day festival, including a special with Thomas Edison National Historical Park exchange and exhibit at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1. Along with lighting One World Trade Center for the NPS Centennial.   New York City has many National Parks to visit, along with our very own Hudson Valley- FDR’s Home is in Hyde Park, I first went there in forth grade and since been back with my kids also.

The 100th Birthday of the National Park Service (August 25th), celebrated with ice cream from The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory which was delicious, and then a kid concert with Ramblin’ Dan. Where the kids danced to two sets and in-between where sworn in as National Park Junior Rangers thanks to the National Park Foundation.  I also had the kids do packets and be sworn in at Assateaugue Island and Washington DC last year after completing questions. The best part is all this is FREE!  I print off the booklets before arriving, and we do them as a family, some parks even having different levels for younger students and older.

Visiting my family on Long Island we went to Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt’s home until he passed away in 1919.  While in Philadelphia for hand surgeries we go early and visit places around there too.  I cannot stress enough, the educational value and memory making a family can have and do while visiting National Parks.  How many can you visit with your family before they turn 18?  Find out, starting visiting and even collecting today!
