Mount Snow Vermont Resort

Share

mount snowWe visited Mount Snow for two nights, although the weather was not cooperating for us, we still had fun as a family.  This was out last stop after a week mountain hopping in Vermont.  We stayed in the Grand Summit Hotel, a beautiful slope side hotel located in the middle of many of the Mount Snow lodges.

Location

Mount Snow, in West Dover located in Southern Vermont and just three hours on average from the Hudson Valley.  Not far from Albany and other major highways. Our ride home was a quick one, a very easy and doable day trip for families from the eastern sides of Dutchess and Putnam.

Mount Snow Offerings

Mount Snow offers 85 trails, 20 lifts and many terrain parks, of those trails 15% are green, 70% blue, and 15% black, a wide selection of trails for the beginners to experts.   Between the four main sections: Main face, North Face, Sunbrook and Carinthia a free stylers haven.  Carinthia is a 100 acre terrain park, a snowboarders dream for sure. There is plenty of dining options, formal and grab & go around Mount Snow.  We had lunch at the Base Mountain Lodge Deli between lesson sessions for the kids. The lodge features many dining choices, a huge fireplace to sit and relax near, bathrooms and more.image

Accommodations

At Mount Snow there are plenty of places to stay, park once and never touch your car again until you are packing up to leave.  The Grand Summit Resort Hotel is where we stayed while visiting.  There are also lodges and many condo/townhomes to choose from also the mountain.  We loved our room at the Grand Summit, we had views above the pool, looked out over the mountain and had plenty of space.  Our suite had a fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms (one upstairs in loft), two bathrooms, three TVs and plenty of closet space and room to spread out.  The hotel also had laundry facilities, loved the ability to clean up some of our gear and clothes while there.  Inside the Grand Summit Hotel, there is a ski/bike check, stores, fitness center, spa, arcade, health club, Harriman’s Farm -To-Table Restaurant, Grand Country Deli & Convenience Store, Mount Snow Sports, and wifi in all rooms and common areas.Grand Summit Hotel Suite Grand Summit Hotel Suite Grand Summit Hotel Suite Grand Summit Hotel Suite

Lessons

Mount Snow offers many different choices for ski and snowboarding lessons.  Starting with child care for six months and up, at three kids can start to learn to ski at Cub Camp.  Snow Camp, Mountain Camp, Mountain Riders, Adults lessons and private and group lessons too.  We were most interested in Burton’s Riglet program that Mount Snow has for three-six years old who want to snowboard.  The kids took three sessions, a morning and afternoon and following morning again. Conditions were less than ideal while there, it rained most of the first day on the mountain.

Program included going inside, coloring and working indoors on some basic concepts and moves.  A “treehouse” with features is typically apart of the Riglet Program at Mount Snow for kids to practice on and get them excited about snowboarding.

Mountain Services

While staying at Mount Snow we utilized THE GRIND, a full service repair shop for skis and snowboards.  We had our boards waxed and edged by ceramic disc, we dropped off, left overnight to have services done and picked up in the morning, also enabling us to not transport back to hotel for the night.  Do you want to be more active? Private Fitness tours, private summit tours, and snowshoe tours are also available at Mount Snow.   Families can also participate in snow tubing.  Mount Snow has one of the biggest parks in Vermont. Open Fridays through Mondays and Holidays, single rider tubes only for two hour sessions.. Tubing consists of an 8-Lane Tubing Park with it’s own lift.

My family enjoyed Mount Snow, we loved the Riglet program and hope to go back again soon.  The easy trip north from the Hudson Valley is key.  Whether it is your first time or hundredth, you should be visiting Mount Snow this season.
