Mid-Hudson Children's Museum

Have you been to the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum yet?  One of the Hudson Valley’s hidden gems of kids full of affordable, indoor fun! Outdoor fun and incredible views of two of the Hudson River’s bridges- Mid Hudson Bridge and The Walkway over the Hudson.   Located in Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County) behind the train station and next to the river there is fun for all ages inside.

On Friday we were invited to check out MHCM‘s Annual Summer Kick Off Party and indoor/outdoor event to show off all that the museum has to offer and to meet other local businesses that were participating in the event.  I had never been int he pavilion before to realize the size and beauty of it or the path between the river and Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum. (Another goal for us this summer with our bikes.)

The museum consists of two floors, both have things for all ages but mainly younger is better on the bottom.  Personally, I say the age is 6m-7years, as moms we know our kids best though.  Active baby- bring them, more reserved elementary child, bring them even older. The multiple exhibits are a mixture of local history and facts, sensory, imaginative and early learning.  Most importantly… ALL fun!!

The favorites for us are the train table set up, its HUGE, with spots to crawl under so you can stand up in the middle of the tracks, the scarf shoots- where you send scarves through tubes across the ceiling, the fire truck in the Rivertown exhibit which now is a ladder truck- awesome since their dad is in a ladder truck and they now can climb up it.  First ladder fire truck we have ever seen as a climb-on/toy.  Upstairs there is the slide, light-brite, hands-on math stations and building fun.  Personally I would plan for at least 3 hours, especially if it
is your first time.  I have to drag the kids out every visit.

imageAdmission is $8 ages 1 and up.  Museum is open Tuesdays-Sunday (Mondays for July and August).  9:30am-5pm Monday-Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sundays.  Special discounts and programs are also offered as well as special nighttime events which can be found on their calendar.  Memberships are also available (we had this for two years personally before I went back to teaching and used it on vacations too).   Birthday party options are also available and we went to one also with the kids and they had so much fun.

The Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum is located at 75 North Water Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
