LIGHTSCAPES Historical Hudson Valley 2016

Share

imageLast weekend, we were able to check out Historic Hudson Valley’s LIGHTSCAPES at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson. A SELL OUT event Thursdays-Sundays in month of MAY, its great fun for the whole family, and a great night time outing.  The entire exhibit is outdoors and walk through, so you can go at your own pace, and push strollers through.  LIGHTSCAPES is brought to you by The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze and does not disappoint.image

Tickets are timed in increments, giving time and space between groups.  We attended on opening night (and in the rain) without much wait time, total walk through was just under an hour, to see everything and take pictures.  Starting off in the tent where food, drinks and gifts are offered

Starting at the magical rainbow, the kids were excited and ready, seeing bubbles coming at them, and new this year a long shadow wall set up for fun.  The kids immediately noticed that bottles, containers and jugs made the lighted magic, bringing up a quick talk of recycling since Earth Day had just passed.  To think this was all original and hand-made art, the hours of work that went into the creature for all to enjoy.  Dancing butterflies were spotted and then noticed to be really people, great detail.  Favorites were the turtles, fairies, and ladybugs. The kids stopped to count ants and mushrooms, great for working on our counting and math skills.

IMG_2640Marvels waiting to be discovered include an interactive Shadow Wall, the mesmerizing Colorwheel Castle, and a gathering of garden fairies casting a spell in the form of a light show. Larger-than-life elements like a Frog Prince and a giant praying mantis join more than 7,500 smaller sculptures, including lightning bugs, butterflies, and flowers of all colors, sizes, and shapes.
Along the way visitors will find recycled and upcycled elements such as beach balls, bowling pins, and milk jugs, which serve as eco-friendly building blocks for intergalactic flora and friendly woodland creatures. (More info here: http://bit.ly/1VupqCM)- Historical Hudson Valley
