February Events at the Mid Hudson Children’s Museum.

Mark your calendars now.  There are a lot of great activities and specials coming to the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum.  On Chilly days, this is the perfect spot to escape to.

 

MAKING MASTERPIECES: CHINESE NEW YEAR

February 1, 2017 | 2:30 pm

This month:  The Chinese New Year officially begins January 28th, but the party lasts all the way into February.  Children will learn about this holiday and make a special art project to celebrate the year of the Rooster.

About “Making Masterpieces” Programs:  This facilitated art program invites parents and caregivers to work with their pre-school aged child to create something special to take home.  Each month features a new project!

Cost:  $5.00 materials fee per child, plus museum admission (adults free)

MUSEUM SHOWCASE: WONDERDOME

February 3, 2017 | 2:30 pm

This month:  This guided play experience will give parents and kids new ideas of what to do inside this popular exhibit space. We will focus specifically on sensory learning and colors!

About “Museum Showcase” Programs:  Sometimes there’s more to the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum than meets the eye!  Join Museum Education staff for an insider’s look at what makes our Museum so special.  Each Museum Showcase will focus on one distinct part of the Museum to help you get a deeper appreciation of what we have to offer.

TRY SCIENCE! – KITCHEN CHEMISTRY

This month:  Kitchen Chemistry  We’re cooking up some science this month and you’re invited to discover all kinds of crazy chemical reactions you can create using items found in your own kitchen!

About “Try Science!” Programs:  Try Science! is an early science program designed to introduce preschool aged children to concepts and content in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  Parents and caregivers will get tips on how to encourage further STEM learning at home.  Each month features a new topic and a different hands-on activity.

This program is free with museum admission.

 

MAKING MASTERPIECES: VALENTINE’S DAY COOKIE DECORATING

February 8 + 15, 2017 | 2:30 pm

This month:  Make something special for a loved one!  Children will learn about generosity as they listen to Valentine’s Day stories and decorate cookies made by a local bakery. Children are encouraged to give their cookies to someone special for the holiday.

AFTERNOON ABC 123: MISSING MITTEN MYSTERY

February 14, 2017 | 2:30 pm

This month:  Where are the missing mittens?  Join Magnificent Ms. M. Mitten Maker as we move through the museum searching for magic missing mittens that must mostly match. This program will strengthen visual recognition which is necessary for the development of early reading skills.

About Afternoon ABC 123 Programs:  This early literacy and math program features a playground format to engage both toddlers and their parents/caregivers in song, stories, and hands-on projects.  Parents will get take-home ideas to support early learning in the home. Each month has a different theme!

STARLAB: WHAT’S THAT CONSTELLATION?

February 17, 2017 | 4:00 pm

Journey into the museum’s StarLab Planetarium to learn basic astronomy concepts. After the program you’ll be able to find real constellations in the night sky!

$3 per person, plus museum admission.  Please note:  Space is Limited.

SPECIAL PRESIDENT’S DAY PROGRAM – DINOSAUR WORKSHOP

February 20, 2017 | 1:00 pm

This is the perfect workshop for dinosaur lovers who are 4 to 6 years old!  We’ll learn about dinosaurs, fossils and how fossils are found.  Each child will make a cast of a dinosaur claw or tooth, and will also work on their own pretend paleontological dig to discover their own fossil dinosaur!

Cost:  $10.00 materials fee per child, plus museum admission (adults free)
