img_2768All families are busy, but they also must make time to volunteer, many times for kids it is built in to school, extra curricular activities and sports. What about doing something as a family?  Well the 26th annual Family Volunteer Day is coming on November 19th, it takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year. The day is about service that demonstrates and celebrates the power of families who volunteer together, supporting their neighbors and neighborhoods. Taking place this year on November 19, Family Volunteer Day is powered by generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service, and sponsored by The Walt Disney Company.

We checked out the website for generationON to find a project that would fit our family.  The kids immediately picked the Cheery Cards because they love coloring and after explaining who these cards would go to, Charlotte declared yes.  Their daddy is a Military Vet and with Veteran’s Day coming up, they are dropping the cards at our local Veteran’s office.  They hope these brighten up the day for someone.img_2880

Family Volunteer Day is about family bonding and teaching important lessons.  My family and I enjoyed making these cards and spreading the Cheer.  Do you want to learn more? You can find more ideas on generationOn and see what other families have done on facebook, twitter, instagram and pinterest this year.  If you can’t join this year, now you know of this annual family event and can plan to participate next year.
