DIY Kids Holiday Project: Gift of Love

Share

image  If you’re looking for a cute project to do with your kiddos, why don’t you try to make a “Gift of Love”. They can use it to decorate the house or they can give it as a gift to someone special.

I volunteered to come up with one of the crafts for my son’s 1st grade class holiday party. I wanted to do something sweet, since the other project will be more whimsical. I had this vision, of making a “gift”, in which they would label it with the gift they can give that costs no money. I went over many formats before I came across this version, that I love.

The materials you will need are:

  • a box/container of any size or shape
  • wrapping paper
  • scissors
  • glue (or tape)
  • pen/marker/crayon
  • bow or ribbon

First, you will need to select what type of box (or container) you will use to wrap your gift of kindness. And gather up the wrapping paper you would like to use as well. As you can see in the photo above I chose to go with one style of wrapping paper for the whole box, but you can certainly make it a mosaic. (I am prepping this project for 24 kids, so its easier to give less options of paper!)

Once you’ve selected what wrapping paper you will use, begin cutting! I cut strips and squares in varying shapes so that it still has a slight patchwork effect when the kids are gluing the strips onto the box.

Once the cutting is done, you can begin gluing (or taping) the paper onto the box.

Before finishing up, cut a little heart  (or have your child cut the “tag”) and write on the tag what their gift from the heart! Attach the heart and top off with a bow (or ribbons!)  It’s a great way to discuss that material gifts are fun but they’re not what the holiday season is all about! Some great ideas for Gifts From The Heart are:

  • kindness
  • friendship
  • giving a helping hand
  • giving respect
  • sharing laughter
