County Parks

Putnam County Veteran’s Memorial Park

Summer is here, although many of these parks are open year round for different seasonal activities.  Also the rail trail for biking and walking runs through many of these counties for endless exploring options.  We frequent the Walkway over the Hudson and the Bike Path in Carmel, great places to take the kids to learn to ride their bikes, roller blade and walk as a family (dogs included).  The list below are County parks and is not a complete list of the town/city parks around also. A family could have an entire summer of fun just exploring the different parks.

Putnam County 
Putnam consists of many parks offering many different amenities: swimming, hiking, fishing, playgrounds, ice skating, and cross country skiing to name a few.  For a list of parks from the county website click here.  We just got our passes for the Putnam County Veteran’s Park for a summer of swimming and playing at the playground.

Dutchess County
Dutchess offers an array of different parks that include children play areas, fishing, hiking, sport fields and biking to list a few.  For a list of Dutchess Parks click here.

Westchester County
A list of the parks in Westchester, their site also includes information on Playland, pools and other beaches in the county.  There are also many more local town parks, check out the town websites for more information.

Rockland County
The county park list is long and also includes information on the county dog parks.  Don’t forget to check out the local town parks also.

Ulster County
Ulster had beautiful mountain ranges with exceptional hiking paths.  Check out their list and interactive map for places to visit within the county park system.

Orange County
Parks and Golf courses are all over Orange County.  On their website you can even book a tee time or reserve a park facility for your kid’s next birthday party.

State Parks
Also don’t forget all the state parks that are local to you, like Bear Mountain which includes a zoo and Merry-Go-Round.  Here is a list of the Taconic Region Parks (east of Hudson River) and the Palisades Region Parks (West of Hudson River).
