Visit Camelback: Ski, Tube and Swim

Share

Looking for it all this winter? Camelback Mountain is the place to visit with indoor and outdoor offerings, truly something for everyone.  During the winter months Camelback Mountain Resort offers Skiing, Snowboarding and Tubing all outdoors.  Ready to warm up?  Come indoors to Camelback Lodge and Indoor Waterpark, Aquatopia.

Camelback Mountain

Ski School

Camelback offers lessons for all ages, with a great kid ski school area, including child safe drop off and pick up.  You are given a pass with code that coordinates with your child.  There are a variety of choices  for lessons and as a snowboarding family, I LOVED that they offer a Burton Snowboard program.  They test the children and move them to appropriate levels and continue throughout the lesson.  By the end of the 90 minutes the kids were going off mini jumps, it was al they talked about (besides their magic carpet dancing).

Mountain

The mountain included 37 trails and 16 lifts (2 high speed quad chairs), offering night skiing/riding too.  100% snow making ability for all trails to be covered.  Smaller area with two runs holding assorted jumps and rails.  This was accessible by another lift opposite side of the mountain for lessons.  We were able to check it out a bit while the kids had lessons.  Conditions were not great, unusual for this time of year, but rain and warm weather can ruin conditions.  We still had a few runs of success.  The resort is also accessible from the trails, to ski out or into your hotel.  They also offer daily and overnight rentals for equipment, which is great on crowded days and when returning following day instead of transporting yourself.

Food/Drinks

There are a variety of options located on the property.  You can find dine-in service in the Ski Area, walk up booths (Waffle House must be tried!!), and cafeteria area with many choices.  Eat at the Tubing area or inside the Lodge.  No outside food is allowed in Aquatopia, while there is an adult only area for drinks and food, including swim up service.

Tubing

Have you been tubing?  I have not since I was a kid, and well once I got in one I became eight years old all over again.  With 40 chutes separated into double/singles or up to quads in the other section you will have fun with your friends and family.  Time slots are for 3 hours, since it was not very crowded we were able to go 10 times in an hour. The magic carpet is quick at bringing you and your tube right up. There is a gorgeous fire pit to sit around and warm up, benches and food choices also in the tubing area. We loved the WAFFLE CABIN and chocolate covered waffles. After 5pm is Galactic Snowtubing in the dark with laser lit lanes.

Aquatopia

This indoor waterpark is amazing for all ages. The baby/toddler Arctic themed water play area which is perfect for the three and under crowd.  There are 13 different slides to go on, a mix between body, tube and mat slides.  We LOVED the family slide- Venus SlydeTrap, we went on 3 different times.  Storm Chaser and Kartrite’s Quest- the aqua play structure were other favorites.  When you want to relax either the lazy river or the indoor/outdoor hot tub were fun to sit in.  Adults can enjoy the swim up (or walk up) bar in the adult only area.  There are over a hundred lifeguards and seven pools, including the huge wave pool.  Aquatopia is the LARGEST indoor waterpark around.   Towels are provided inside Aquatopia, no need to bring your own.

Indoor Fun

After swimming, and just outside the waterpark is the Arcadia Mega Arcade for the kids to play games and redeem tickets in their huge redemption store. Laser Runner course, K2 Climb ropes course, mini golf, pottery painting, bowling and rock climbing walls are also throughout the Camelback Lodge. There is something of everyone to do indoors.   Small shops and restaurants can also be roamed during your stay.

Lodging

Staying at Camelback includes your tickets to Aquatopia, separate ski/ride packages and tubing tickets can be purchased.  The lodge is also accessible from the snow, after spending the day on the mountain all day, ride straight down to the lodge to click out and warm up. They have many deals through their website to help you find the best package for your family.

Tips

  • Perferred parking is a $20 add-on, and highly suggested for those lugging gear in, bringing your own lunches (leave the cooler in the car) and quicker car-mountain time.
  • Show up at least 30 minutes in advance for tubing, especially during busy weekends/times (12-1 is a busy ticket time).
  • Food is not allowed inside Aquatopia, don’t bother bringing it down.
  • Showers are available at Aquatopia, along with separate changing area.

Disclosure:  We received tickets for lessons, lifts, tubing and the waterpark in exchange for our honest review.  No other compensation was received. As always everything is 100% our opinion.
