Apple Mom of Westchester Monday: Casey

Casey Marcus from New Rochelle is our Mom of the Week from Westchester County.  She has a beautiful daughter Chloe who is 4 in preschool.  Before becoming a mom she was a secretary for White Collar Securities Litigation, turned Stay at Home Mom.

What does a typical day look like for you?  Mornings start around 6:30 am with me being woken up by Chloe hopping out of her bed and turning off her monitor. We listen intently to see if Daddy has left for work. If he hasn’t, we dash down the stairs to say goodbye before he catches his train. Our morning is a flurry of chores, errands or play dates. Every once in a while we are treated to a nice lazy morning. 11 am signals the beginning of lunchtime negotiations. All of a sudden it’s noon and Chloe is catching the bus for her afternoon prekindergarten class. Happy Dance! It’s Mommy’s Alone Time! The next 3 hours are usually spent tackling the errands no child wants to tag along for. Sometimes I treat myself to a little Starbucks and catch up on the DVR full of inappropriate child shows. 3:30 pm has arrived and so has Chloe on a chariot of yellow. The rest of the day is filled with discussing what happened at school, dinner and bath time. Chloe is fast asleep by 7 pm and I follow at 10 pm.

What is your favorite memory of being a mom so far?  It’s hard to pick just one. Pickup from the bus is a recent one. The moment Chloe first makes eye contact with me when getting off the school bus is truly magical. She lights up when she realizes I’m there. It melts my heart.

What is a funny mom moment you have had?  A funny mom moment that sticks out is Chloe’s first curse word. She dropped something and, exasperated, threw her hands up in the air and said “oh s$%t!

In your free time what do you like to do?  In my free time I love to cook and bake. Chloe has picked up this interest and often aids me. We also enjoy watching the Food Network together for inspiration.

Current favorite show you are watching? I am obsessed with all things Bravo.

Book you are reading now? Do children’s books count? Every time I pick up an adult book I fall asleep within the first ten minutes of reading.

In your town/county where are you favorite places to go with your kids/family?  Our favorite places to go in Westchester all have one thing in common, they are free! Last summer we stumbled upon Untermyer Gardens Conservancy in Yonkers. It is breathtaking there. The grounds have a walled garden, vista steps leading down to a view of the Palisades and Hudson River and there is even a Temple of Love perched atop a rock formation. We also love to visit Muscoot Farm in Katonah, the Kensico Dam in Valhalla, the Bronx River Trailway and the various parks located along the Long Island Sound.

What makes town/county special?  New Rochelle and its coast line are truly special. We are lucky to live 5 minutes away from Glen Island. The view is spectacular and there is something for everyone in the family.

Thanks Casey!  We think you are an awesome mom and Chloe is beautiful!!!  Anytime you have extra baked goods, let us know!!
