2017 Muddy Puddles Project MESS FEST
Local to the Hudson Valley is a charity was founded by Cindy Campbell and inspired by her 5-year-old son, Ty, who loved Peppa Pig and dreamed of jumping in muddy puddles (just like Peppa loves to do) when he got better. Unfortunately, he never got the chance. Since Ty’s passing, families nationwide have joined the mission, bringing more awareness to the cause in his name by hosting their own “Welly Walks” and taking part in “Mess Fest” events to honor all kids who are battling cancer and unable to enjoy such simple pleasures of childhood.
The Muddy Puddles Project – which is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year – holds an incredible annual “main event” called Mess Fest. This year’s Mess Fest takes place on Saturday, August 5 in Mahopac, NY. Since its inception, the event has been growing by leaps and bounds. This year, nearly 3,000 kids and families are expected, including a number of families with children affected by the disease. Like a Woodstock for kids – for an awesome cause – Mess Fest is a huge, carnival-like event featuring a wide range of fun family activities – from splatter paint and a “slopstacle” course to pie throwing and food fights on the hour.
Event will be at Kiwi Country Day Camp
825 Union Valley Road, Mahopac NY
Saturday August 5th 11:00am-4:00pm
The charity, which was inspired by Peppa Pig, has also come full circle. Peppa Pig has named the Muddy Puddles Project its charity of choice and the brand is helping to raise visibility for the organization. Peppa Pig herself will be on hand at the upcoming Mess Fest. A number of celebrity moms, including Lisa Loeb, Tamera Mowry, Tiffani Thiessen, and Melissa Joan Hart, have also lent their support to the worthy cause.
The Muddy Puddles Project was created as a fundraising platform for the Ty Louis Campbell (TLC) Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting childhood cancer research aimed at improving the survival rates for all children diagnosed with cancer, but at its heart, it’s a celebration of childhood and a reminder about the importance of letting kids be kids.
Here’s a short video featuring the moving personal story of founder Cindy Campbell. (The video is from the Ken Burns documentary, Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies.)
